Mary The Dawn
Mary the Dawn, Christ the Perfect Day; Mary the Gate, Christ the Heav’nly Way! Mary the Root, Christ the Mystic Vine; Mary the Grape, Christ the Sacred Wine! Mary the Wheat-sheaf, Christ the Living Bread; Mary the Rose-Tree, Christ the Rose Blood-red! Mary the Font, Christ the Cleansing Flood; Mary the Chalice, Christ the Saving Blood! Mary the Temple, Christ the Temple’s Lord; Mary the Shrine, Christ the God adored! Mary the Beacon, Christ the Haven’s Rest; Mary the Mirror, Christ the Vision Blest! Mary the Mother, Christ the Mother’s Son. Both ever blest while endless ages run. Amen.
Is there a more beautiful prayer? Is there a more beautiful Saint? Is there a more beautiful Mother?
Was there ever a woman more honored by God?
I think not…
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.
My maternal grandmother was devoted to Jesus through Mary. Every night at 7:00, the Rosary Hour was broadcast over the radio, and the entire household suddenly hit their knees in the living room and prayed the Rosary.
That included any visitors present. No matter what was going on or who was there, ALL activity stopped and you were on your knees for the next fifteen minutes praying the Rosary. Everybody. Nobody escaped. If you were Jewish, you were on your knees praying the rosary.
I spent a LOT of time at my grandparents’ house when I was growing up. A LOT of time. I learned to pray the Rosary before I was in kindergarten. And, maybe even more importantly, I learned to love Mary, the Mother of God. And, through her, Jesus, the only begotten Son of God – the second person of the Holy Trinity. And the Father. And the Holy Spirit.
There was a period of time when I got away from saying the Rosary – years, in fact. While I didn’t realize it was happening, I slowly became far too involved in secular life, concerned mainly with the things of the world. But even in times when I was far from being the person God made me to be, I still felt a deep love for Mary.
Because of that love, I eventually started praying the rosary again and came back around years ago.
Thank you, Lord, for giving me my Grandma Harrigan…
Thank you, Grandma, for leading me to our Mother, Mary, and through her to The Father, Son and Holy Spirit…
And thank you, Mary, for agreeing to be the Mother of Jesus… And for being the Mother of me…
The Earliest Known Prayer To Mary
We often hear that “Mary worship” didn’t start until the middle ages. Well, that’s not true – “Mary worship” has never started. But prayers asking Her intercession have been in use for almost two thousand years.
Here is the earliest known prayer to the Mother of God – in constant use since at least the year 250:

Dr. Scott Hahn – The Virgin Mary Revealed Through Scripture
Yes, Marian teachings are found in The Bible…
Former evangelical & anti Catholic preacher speaks of discovering the Blessed Mother in scriptures. Dr. Scott Hahn reveals incredible insights on the Biblical basis for the Catholic teachings regarding Mary as the Ark of the New Covenant. This presentation will help shatter many misconceptions and clearly demonstrate how Catholic teachings are unmistakably rooted in Sacred Scripture.
Prayer To Our Lady Of The Most Blessed Sacrament
Virgin Immaculate, perfect lover of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, we ask thee to obtain for us the graces we need to become true adorers of our Eucharistic God. Grant us, we beg of thee, to know Him better, to love Him more, and to center our lives around the Eucharist, that is, to make our whole life a constant prayer of adoration, thanksgiving, reparation, and petition to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Amen.

Does The Catholic Church Honor Mary Too Much?
“Sometimes the Catholic Church is criticized, ‘She honors Mary too much,’ but the Catholic Church will never honor Mary as much as Jesus honored her, as much as God the Father honored her by making her the Mother of His Eternal Son, as much as the Holy Spirit, who was responsible by His power for her conception.” – Cardinal Justin Rigali
The Hail Mary Explained
I love this explanation of the Hail Mary prayer. While it’s not extremely in depth, it is simple and actually covers a lot of ground in a relatively small space.
I’m only including the first part of the explanation here, but you can click on the link at the bottom to read the rest.
First, the prayer itself:
Hail Mary, full of grace, the lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Now the explanation:
Mary And The Bible – John Martinoni
One of the most difficult things in Catholicism for Protestants to grasp is what Catholics think of Mary. They point out that Mary is hardly to be found in scripture at all, much less worthy of the level of honor accorded her by Catholics.
Even many Catholics really do not why they say their rosaries (when they say them), or understand the logic (and Biblical context) behind Catholic theology regarding Mary.We just say a Hail Mary every now and then because we learned it as a child, and it’s a convenient prayer to say when we feel the need for spiritual “activity”.
Actually, references to Mary are found throughout the Bible – starting with Genesis and ending with Revelation. Most people just don’t recognize her when they see her, and because they don’t, they question Catholic beliefs regarding the Mother of God.
How can you call Mary the Mother of God? How can you say that Mary was conceived without sin? How can you say that Mary remained a virgin her entire life? How can you believe that Mary was assumed into Heaven, body and soul? Why do Catholics worship Mary? (We don’t.) Why do Catholics honor Mary so much?
As St. Augustine said: “The New Testament lies hidden in the Old, and the Old Testament is unveiled in the New.”
When correctly understood, Catholic devotion to Mary makes perfect Christian sense.

Why The Rosary Is Biblical
Mary and the Catholic Church
Mary’s Perpetual Virginity: Why Does It Matter?
The first thing to note about the perpetual virginity of Mary is that it’s the natural extension of the dogma of the virgin birth. Many modern people assume that, at its core, the virgin birth was basically a stunt. That is, the common modern assumption is that the meaning of Mary’s virginity is pretty much exhausted when somebody says, “Wow! She had a kid without the assistance of a man! Cool! He must be God Incarnate or something! Let’s check him out!”
The point is that the virginity of Mary is a sign, not a stunt. Stunts merely draw attention. They often don’t mean much beyond, “HEY!” And, at any rate, Jesus’ virgin birth drew no attention at the time it took place. But signs – and especially divine signs – are crammed with meaning. That is, signs signify. So the question becomes, “What did the virginity of Mary signify?” And the answer of the Catholic Church is that Mary’s perpetual virginity signifies crucial things, both about the “person of Christ and his redemptive mission” and “the welcome Mary gave that mission on behalf of all men” (CCC 499). And since, like all divine signs, this one goes on signifying long after its immediate time, Mary’s virginity is appropriate, fitting, and significant on a perpetual basis.

Ten Things You May Not Have Known About Mary
Biblical Evidence for Mary Mediatrix
Dave Armstrong is a convert to Catholicism from an Evangelical background. He, as do many converts from Evangelical Protestantism, had many concerns about Catholic devotion to Mary. After years of studying, he came to an understanding of the significance of Mary’s part in God’s plan for salvation.
Here, he responds to a question from someone considering conversion to the Catholic Church, regarding a prayer recited by Pope Benedict XVI.
This is especially difficult when the comments are from Pope Benedict XVI: “We implore you to have pity today on the nations that have gone astray, on all Europe, on the whole world, that they might repent and return to your heart.” It almost seems to undermine the whole persuasive argument for the fullness of truth being found in the Catholic Church. This is a huge stumbling block to me and the last few days has felt like a complete roadblock on the journey I’ve been on back towards the Catholic faith. I know this may sound angry, but I need some good answers & honesty without someone dancing around this issue with words. Thanks.
