Happy St. Valentine’s Day – And, By The Way, It’s Also Ash Wednesday

Lent is a time for atonement:

AT – ONE – MENT:  Time to work toward becoming ONE IN JESUS

A lot of us are conflicted by the fact that Ash Wednesday – a day of fasting and abstaining  – falls on Valentine’s Day – a day for love and joy – this year.

Actually, it’s appropriate that the two days coincide. This is the day that St. Valentine was martyred via beheading. He did so out of Love for Jesus Christ.

Additionally, Ash Wednesday begins the run-up to the greatest act of Love in the history of the universe.

What could be more appropriate?

St. Valentine was a 3rd century Roman priest who witnessed to his faith in Christ by fasting and the gift of his life. A great AshWednesday saint! This German woodcut is from 1470. The script reads, “Saint Valentine, pray for us to God.” –
